Political prediction markets and traditional polling are showing rare agreement on the outcome of the 2026 midterm elections, both pointing to significant Democratic gains in Congress, according to Casino.org News.

Polling models give Democrats a 93% chance of winning the House of Representatives and a 74% chance of taking the Senate. Prediction market contracts show an almost identical picture, pricing a 93% chance for the House and 73% for the Senate.

That level of agreement marks a departure from 2024, when pollsters described the presidential race as a dead heat while prediction markets consistently favoured Donald Trump, who went on to win a second term.

Eight Senate races are seen as pivotal to the chamber's balance of power. As of midday trading on Election Day, five of them — Alaska, Kansas, Maine, Ohio and Texas — were leaning Democratic, while only Nebraska and South Carolina leaned Republican. Iowa remained a toss-up.

Prediction markets currently favour Democrats winning 53 or more Senate seats against 47 for Republicans. In the House, the same markets project Republicans falling below 185 seats, down from their current 219, with Democrats projected to take 237.

Markets define a so-called blue wave as Democrats securing at least 218 House seats and 49 or more Senate seats, and trading odds strongly favour the party clearing the House threshold.

Polling data lends support to that projection. The generic congressional ballot, which asks voters only which party they back without naming candidates, shows an 8.8-point advantage for Democrats, according to Casino.org News. Pew Research Center polling also found Democratic voters more likely than Republicans to say that participating in the 2026 midterms really matters.

Beyond the congressional contest, two states have gambling-specific measures on their ballots. Nebraska voters are deciding on Initiative Measures 440 and 441, companion referendums that would amend the state constitution to permit online sports betting. Both need only a simple majority to pass.

In Indiana, voters in Allen, DeKalb and Steuben counties are being asked whether they support allowing a casino locally. Under House Bill 1038, any county that secures a simple majority becomes eligible to field bids for a single gaming licence that the Indiana Gaming Commission can award to one of the three counties, covering slot machines and table games.

The convergence between prediction markets and polling this cycle is notable for an industry that has watched the two diverge sharply in recent election years, and Election Day trading will offer a live test of whether that alignment holds once results are counted.
